ABOUT PATRICK

The first thing to know about Patrick is he finds self-promotion kind of icky (which is another way of saying he is from Wisconsin). He is lucky enough to be performing in the US and Europe with incredibly well-respected people and institutions like The Royal Opera House, the London Handel Festival, Opera North, Glyndebourne, City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, the Elbphilharmonie, Bayerischer Staatsoper, Oper Köln, and Minnesota Opera. He is an alum of the University of Minnesota - Twin Cities, The Royal Academy of Music, the Samling Academy, and the Jette-Parker Young Artist Program at the Royal Opera House. Alongside many failures and rejections, he is the recipient of Loveday Song Prize at the Kathleen Ferrier Singing Competition, the Richard Lewis Prize at the Royal Academy of Music, second prize winner at the London Handel Festival Singing Competition, and the Maureen Lehane Singing Competition. Any success he has had is due to a potent combination of unearned good fortune, the guidance and wisdom of Adriana Zabala, Michael Chance, Adele Thomas, and Laurence Cummings among many others, and the unending love and support of his incredible family.

The voice functions beautifully top to bottom (with none of that fade in the lower register so often found in countertenors), the coloratura passages seemed effortlessly expressive; most important, though, was the musical intelligence with which he characterised his many arias

...the stars aligned when the stunning young countertenor Patrick Terry dispatched Ruggiero’s sublime numbers, Mi lusinga il dolce affetto and verdi prati, where time seemed to stop as the herby strings supported Terry’s cream and gold tones. In two words? Absolutely fabulous
